How Men Can Improve Their Health

How Men Can Improve Their Health

For a whole host of different reasons men are much less likely to seek medical help should they need it, giving the impression that they take the seriousness of looking after their health much less seriously than what women do. It could also be the case that the NHS is not equipped well enough to sufficiently deal with the health issues specifically relating to men, such as erectile dysfunction and premature ejaculation. This may explain why dedicated male focused health clinics like Numan exist - in order to close this health care gap.

What ever the reason is for men shying away from the doctors, there are a number of things that they can do themselves in order to greatly improve their own health so that they are less likely to have to seek medical help in the first place. Some of these things are listed below.

Looking after the heart

Heart attacks or acute coronary attacks as they are medically known are twice as likely to happen in men than what they are in women - the same is also true for strokes. Throughout their lifetime it is believed that as many as 75 percent of all men will suffer with some form of disease that affects the heart.

For this reason it is important that men heed the warning signs that come with a heart attack and go for regular check ups with a doctor. Other ways that men can help their heart is by maintaining a healthy diet, exercising regularly, and removing themselves from tense or stressful situations / environments.

Getting plenty of sleep

By not having enough sleep, your physical health and that of your brain are severely impacted on. There are a number of things that you can do and techniques that can be implemented in order to not only get more sleep but to also improve the quality of the sleep that you are getting.

These include things such as meditating or listening to soothing music just before getting in bed so that you are relaxed and your mind is clear of distraction, not drinking coffee or other caffeinated drinks approximately 6 hours before your bedtime, not using electronic devices like your mobile phone in bed, and having a structured routine at bedtime so that your body knows what to expect.

Being more active

Those individuals who regularly exercise are at less risk of cancer and heart disease than those who do not do any form of exercise. By being more active it will help to lower your blood pressure and cholesterol levels, as well as make you lose weight.

It is recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) that the average adult male should do some 75 mins of high intensity exercise each and every week. If they are unable to do that then 150 mins of moderate intensity exercise will suffice. Even if this much is not practical for your lifestyle, any exercise that you can do is beneficial to your overall health and wellbeing.
