Simeon Nyachae Biography and Educational Background

Simeon Nyachae was born on the 6th of February, 1932 to the family of Musa Nyandusi, a powerful colonial chief. His father facilitated his early exposure to western education and in 1941, he enrolled at Nyanchwa Seventh-day Adventist School.

In 1947, Simon Nyachae joined Kereri Intermediate School, after which he proceeded to Kisii Government African School. In 1953, he withdrew from the school and was employed at his father's chief's camp as a district clerk.

He later travelled to the United Kingdom, where he attended Torquay Academy and Churchill College, Cambridge, obtaining a diploma in public administration.

Career and Politics

Upon his return to Kenya in 1960, Simeon Nyachae was posted as a District Officer in Kangundo Division. By December 1963, he had become a District commissioner.

He quickly rose up the ranks within the provincial administration and ending up serving as a Provincial Commissioner. he was later to become the chief secretary in the Civil Service under the Kenyatta and Moi governments.

Upon his retirement from the civil service, Simeon Nyachae ventured into politics, winning the parliamentary seat in 1992. President Moi appointed him minister of Agriculture and later Finance.

In 1999, Nyachae fell out with Moi and resigned from the government after having been moved to the less influential ministry of Industry. He left the  Kenya African National Union (KANU) to join the opposition FORD People, a less popular party.

Simeon Nyachae runs a chain of business ranging from real estate, agriculture, manufacturing, transportation and banking. His businesses are based in all major cities in Kenya, including Mombasa, Narok, Nairobi, Kisii, Sotik, Kericho and Nyeri.

Personal Life

Simeon Nyachae was married to five wives with over 20 children. His wives include;
• Esther Nyaboke Nyachae (first wife)
• Druscilla Kerubo Nyachae (second wife)
• Martha Mwango Nyachae (third wife)
• Sylvia Nyachae (fourth wife), and
• Grace Wamuyu Nyachae (fifth wife)

He died at the Nairobi Hospital on Monday, February 1 where he had been undergoing treatment for an undisclosed ailment.
