Sir Olu Okeowo Biography and Educational Background

Sir Olu Okeowo was born on the 15th of May 1965 to the family of Pa Taiwo Victor Okeowo. His Dad was a millionaire businessman and a choirmaster at the Methodist Church of Nigeria while his mother was a full-time housewife. 

Growing up, Olu recalls that his parents were quite strict and he had to spend significant time indoors after school. He described his father as a very conservative man who wanted all his children to be modelled along the same conservative lines.

Okeowo had his elementary and secondary education in Nigeria before travelling to Austria where he studied Medical Technology briefly before proceeding to the Caribbean to study medicine.

Career

Upon Olu Okeowo's return to Nigeria in the late eighties, he started his house job at St Nicholas hospital in Lagos.

The devaluation of the Naira from ₦1 per $1 to ₦8 per $1 affected several Nigerian businesses, including his dad's own, leading him (Olu Okeowo) to venture into the business of making burglary proofs and iron-wrought furniture.

At the turn of the decade, he made the full switch into constructions and civil engineering and started building houses. Gibraltar Construction Nigeria Limited was birthed as a real estate and infrastructural development company.

Over the years, Gibraltar Construction has grown to become a onstruction giant with several projects across the country. The company is involved in Construction Business, Storage Tank Fabrication & Construction, Real Estate Sales & Leasing, and Building Renovation. and has completed over 1200 extraordinary projects across 12 states in Nigeria.

Among the projects executed by Gibraltar Construction is the luxurious Parkview Estate in Ikoyi, which houses the Palacio de Okeowo mansion where Okeowo resides. The white mansion is built in a 3-floor Victorian style, modelled after a French palace. Little wonder it is called the French mansion. The construction took 11 months, sprawls across 5 acres of land and cost around $12 million to complete.

Personal Life

Sir Olu Okeowo is happily married to Lady Adejoke Okeowo and the union is blessed with three handsome children. His first son, Oluwatumininu Okeowo is the current Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the company. He assumed the position upon returning to Nigeria after obtaining a B.Eng in Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering with a minor in finance, and a Masters Degree in International Real Estate and Planning from UCL (University College London).

His last son Ibukun Okeowo (popularly known as DJ Mufasa) is a popular entertainer and has so far, garnered more than 70,000 followers on Instagram.

Sir Okeowo is a devoted Christain and also a Knight of John Wesley.

Sir Olu Okeowo is a generous businessman who has never looked back on giving back to society. His acts of philanthropy include the Sir Olu Okeowo Physiotherapy Centre which he donated to the College of Medicine, Lagos University Teaching Hospital, LUTH.

In 2018, he was awarded an honorary Doctorate of Science degree by the Wesley University, Ondo State.
