Gboyega Oyetola Biography and Educational Background
Adegboyega Oyetola was born on the 29th of September, 1954 (according to PremiumTimesNG.com, he was born on April 25, 1956 source) in Iragbiji, Boripe Local Government Area of Osun State. After completing his primary education, he enrolled at the Ifeoluwa Grammar School, Osogbo for his secondary education, graduating in 1972.
He further gained admission to study Insurance at the University of Lagos (UniLag). He graduated from UniLag in 1978 with a Bachelor of Science honours degree in Insurance. He obtained a master’s degree in business administration in 1990 from the same institution.
Oyetola proceeded for his mandatory one year National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Potiskum, Yobe State, where he lectured at the Staff Training Centre between 1978 and 1979.
Career and Politics
Gboyega Oyetola first career after leaving school was at the Leadway assurance company Limited where he worked as an area manager between 1980 and 1987. Between 1987 to 1990, he worked at Crusader Insurance Company Limited as Underwriting Manager.
On leaving Crusader Insurance Company Limited in 1990, he joined Alliance and General Insurance where he worked as a Technical Controller and served in that capacity until 1991 when he left the organisation to start his own company, Silvertrust Insurance Brokers Limited.
Oyetola was the Managing Director Silvertrust Insurance Brokers Limited since its founding until 2011 when he got an appointment as Chief of Staff to the Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola. He also worked as an oil and gas executive in several firms.
After serving as Chief of Staff for 8 years, Gboyega Oyetola decided to contest for the governorship of Osun State on the expiration of Rauf Aregbesola's tenure. He ran under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and had 255,505 votes against 255,023 votes for Ademola Adeleke, his closest challenger who ran under the Peoples Democratic Party.
Personal Life
Gboyega Oyetola is happily married to Alhaja Kafayat Oyetola and the marriage is blessed with children. Kafayat is the founder and President of Ilerioluwa Development Initiative, an NGO which is focused on providing assistance to less privileged women and children in Nigeria.
