Dr. Fred Matiang'i Biography, Early Life and Educational Background

Fred Matiang'i was born in Borabu Constituency, Nyamira County. He is a Kisii by tribe and grew up in Nyamira before moving to Nairobi to further his studies.

Career

Dr Fred Matiang'i previously worked as a lecturer at Egerton University and the University of Nairobi. He has also served as the Eastern Africa Regional Representative for the centre of International Development.

In December 2015, he got appointed as the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Science and Technology having previously been in acting capacity as the Cabinet Secretary for lands.

In July 2017, he got another appointed (acting) as the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Coordination of National Government, making him hold two cabinet positions concurrently; that is in the ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government and Education, Science and Technology.

Dr Fred Matiang'i took up the full position of cabinet secretary for Internal Security and Coordination of National Government after being appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta in January 2018.

On January 2019, President Kenyatta, through Executive Order Number 1 of 2019, appointed him chairperson of the National Development Implementation and Communication Cabinet Committee.
