Noordin Haji Biography and Early Life

Noordin Haji was born on the 3rd of July, 1973  in Garissa District in the North Eastern Province (Northern Frontier District). His father, Mohamed Yusuf Haji is one of the most influential Kenyan politicians and a member of the Senate. He was the Minister of Defence of Kenya from 2008 to 2013 and briefly served as its acting Minister of Internal Security and Provincial Affairs in 2012. Haji's mother was a teacher.

After completing his primary education, Noordin Haji enrolled at the Kabarak High School for his secondary studies and then went to Greensteds International School in Nakuru.

He further proceeded to the University of Wales, Cardiff, Wales, UK where he obtained an LLM and LLB. He also holds an MNSPO (Masters Degree in National Security Policy) with merit from Australian National University and a post-graduate diploma from the Kenya School of law.

Career

Noordin Haji's first professional career in the Public Service was as a State Counsel at the Attorney General Office in 2000. His responsibilities included providing legal counsel to the Inspector General of Police, the Director of Criminal Investigations, the Director-General NIS, and other Non-Law enforcement agencies.

He worked at the Attorney General’s office for many years until he got appointed to the position of the DPP (Director of Public Prosecutions). This was after undergoing thorough scrutiny by the Public Service Commission (PSC) and vetting by the National Assembly.

In March 2018, Haji was appointed by the President Uhuru Kenyatta as the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), a position he still holds till date. He currently oversees high profile corruption investigations and prosecutions in Kenya.

Noordin Haji is happily married with children. Due to the nature of his job, he doesn't release much information about his family to the public.
