Victoria Adaobi Obasi Biography and Educational Background

Adaobi Obasi was born on the 14th of April, 1952 at Oguta to the family of Chief Fred and Ezinne Felicia Nnoham of Ogboko, Ideato South Local Government Area of Imo State Nigeria. She hails from the same village as Gov. Rochas Okorocha, the former Imo State governor and current senator, representing Imo West Orlu senatorial zone.

She had her primary education at Holy Rosary Primary School, Oguta. After obtaining her First School Leaving Certificate, she enrolled at Holy Rosary Secondary, Ihioma for her secondary education.

Obasi further gained admission into the prestigious Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education, Owerri, where she obtained an NCE. She also holds a Masters Degree and PhD from the University of Hull, England.

Career

Victoria Adaobi Obasi did her National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) at Women Training College, Enugu in 1980. 

She was appointed as the IMSU Vice-Chancellor in 2015, following the sack of Professor Ukachukwu Aloysius Awuzie.

During her tenure as VC, Prof. Obasi was a member of the Imo State University Governing Council, Owerri and Senate of Imo State University, Owerri.

She also served as the Sub-Dean Faculty of Education and Director of Women and Gender Studies.

Prof. Victoria Adaobi Obasi has also handled several top positions outside Imo State university, including; Secretary-General National Association for Women in Academics, Community Leader and Mobilizer, Adviser on Education to Imo State Government, Commissioner for Local Government and Rural Development amongst others.

She served as the Commissioner for Education between 2011 to 2013.

She has authored five books and forty-five Journal articles in reputable National and International Journals;

On December 2020, Sen. Hope Uzodinma, the Governor of Imo State relieved Professor Victoria Adaobi Obasi of her position as the VC.

Personal Life

Professor Victoria Adaobi Obasi is happily married to Sir (Chief) Charles Obasi of Dim Na Nume Isu Nwangele Local Government Area Imo State and the union is blessed with five lovely children.
She is a devoted Christain and member of the Anglican Communion.
