Dimeji Bankole is a Nigerian politician who served as the 9th Speaker of the House of Representatives of Nigeria.

He got elected to the seat at the age of 37 and was the youngest Speaker in the history of the House. He contested for the Ogun State 2019 gubernatorial election under the  Action Democratic Party (ADP) platform Dapo Abiodun of the  All Progressives Congress (APC).

Dimeji Bankole Biography and Educational Background

Dimeji Bankole was born on the 14th of November, 1969 in Abeokuta, a town located in what is now Ogun State. His father, Alani Bankole is a businessman and the former National Vice-Chairman and acting Chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP). He is a holder of the chieftaincy titles of the Oluwo of Iporo Ake and the Seriki Jagunmolu of Egbaland.

After obtaining his First School Leaving Certificate, Dimeji Bankole enrolled at Baptist Boys' High School for his secondary education. He also attended Albany College, London, England before enrolling at the  University of Reading, Reading, England.

Bankole also holds certificates from the University of Oxford's Officer Training College, Oxford and Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts in the United States.

Career and Politics

Dimeji Bankole served as a Director of Freight Agencies Nigeria Limited from 1995 to 1998 and Director of ASAP Limited from 2000 until 2003.

He has been serving as the Chairman, Aspire Integrated Consultants Nigeria since 2012. He is also the Vice President of Africa House London.

Dimeji Bankole got elected to the House of Representatives to represent the Abeokuta South Federal Constituency of Ogun State in 2002, under the People's Democratic Party (PDP) platform. He was Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Finance while Aminu Bello Masari was Speaker.

He was re-elected to the position in April 2007.

Dimeji Bankole emerged as the governorship candidate of the (ADP) Action Democratic Party in Ogun State on March 6, 2018, to contest in the 2019 general elections. He lost to Dapo Abiodun of the  All Progressives Congress (APC).

Personal Life

Hon. Dimeji Bankole was married to Olaitan Bankole, but they got divorced in 2007. He'll be getting married to Miss Aisha Shinkafi Saidu, daughter of the Governor of Kebbi State, Alhaji Atiku Bagudu on January 15, 2021.
