Major General Ibrahim Attahiru Biography and Educational Background

Ibrahim Attahiru was born on the 10th of August, 1966 in Doka, Kaduna North Local Government Area of Kaduna State. He attended the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), where he started his officer cadet training in January 1984 as part of the NDA Regular Course 35.

He also attended the Armed Forces Command and Staff College and Nigerian Army School of Infantry.

Career

Major General Ibrahim Attahiru was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant into the Nigerian Army in December 1986.

In September 2000 he was a United Nations military observer for the British Army Operation Barras in Sierra Leone. He also served as an Operations Officer and later Company Commander in NIBATT 19 ECOMOG Operations in Liberia.

Attahiru was Theatre Commander for Operation Lafiya Dole (the Nigerian military's Boko Haram counter-insurgency operation) until he was relieved from the position in 2017 for alleged incompetence.

He was General Officer Commanding 82 Division of Nigerian Army, Enugu prior to his appointment as Chief of Army Staff.

On 26 January 2021, Major General Ibrahim Attahiru was appointed the Chief of Army Staff of the Federal Republic of Nigeria by President Muhammadu Buhari.

On 21st May 2021, Major General Ibrahim Attahiru reportedly died in an air crash. The incident happened while he was on an official trip to Kaduna.
