Mohamed Yusuf Haji was a Kenya politician who has been serving as a Senator since 2013. He has handled several positions in the Kenyan cabinet. He was the Minister of Defence of Kenya from 2008 to 2013 and briefly served as its acting Minister of Internal Security and Provincial Affairs in 2012. He reportedly died on the 15th of February, 2021 after suffering from an ailment.

Mohamed Yusuf Haji was born on the 23rd of December, 1940 in Garissa District, an administrative County in the former North Eastern Province of Kenya. He hails from the Abdalla subclan of the Ogaden and Borana from his mom sideFor his post-secondary education, Haji holds a diploma in Management and Finance Control from the University of Birmingham.
Career
Mohamed Yusuf Haji began his professional career in administration and management. He started working at the Provincial Administration of Kenya as a District Officer in 1960. In 1970, he began serving as as Provincial Commissioner, handling the position until 1997.In 1998, he got nominated as a member of the Kenyan Parliament. He was later elected an official Member of Parliament on a Kenya African National Union (KANU) ticket.
Yusuf Haji worked as an Assistant Minister in the Office of the President from 199 to 2001. In 2002, he began acting as the Office's Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs.
At the 2007 parliamentary elections, Haji was elected to represent the Ijara Constituency in the National Assembly of Kenya.
On 8 January 2008, Haji was appointed Kenya's Minister of State for Defence. Hi's term as Minister of Defence ended on 26 April 2013.
Mohamed Yusuf Haji died on the 15th of February, 2021 after battling a very long time illnesses that saw him flown to Turkey for treatment and cameback to the country where he died a week later at the Agha Khan hospital.
