Ikechukwu Eric Ahiauzu was born on the 6th of January, 1989 in Port Harcourt, the capital of Rivers State, Nigeria to the family of Prof Augustine and Prof. Blessing Ahiauzu. His both parents were lecturers, with his father serving as the Vice-Chancellor of the Rivers State University of Science and Technology for eight years.He was raised on the university campus and had his elementary education at the Rivers State University of Science and Technology Staff School. Upon obtaining his First School Leaving Certificate, he enrolled at Gruntvig International Secondary School, Oba, Anambra State for his secondary education.
He subsequently secured admission to study at the prestigious Covenant University, Ota, Ogun State, graduating with a degree in Economics. Eric also holds a Masters Degree in Energy Economics and Policy from the University of Surrey, United Kingdom.

In an interview with Punch, Ric Hassani revealed that he started music professionally in December 2012. He describes his music genre as pop-African.
