Willie Obiano Biography and Educational Background
Willie Obiano was born on the 8th of August, 1955 to the family of Phillip Obiano and Christiana Obiano in Anambra State, Nigeria. He originally hails from Aguleri but was raised in Onitsha, where he also had his primary and secondary education.For his primary education, he attended Holy Trinity School, after which he enrolled at the Christ the King College (CKC). Obiano holds a degree in Accounting and an MBA in marketing, both from the prestigious University of Lagos (UniLag).
Career and Politics
In 1981, Willie Obiano began his professional career at the First Bank of Nigeria. He left FirstBank to join Chevron Oil Nigeria Plc as an accountant, rising to the position of Chief Internal Auditor.
In 1991, he joined the Fidelity Bank as Deputy Manager and head of Audit unit and rose to the position of Executive Director in October 2003.
In 2013, Obiano left the banking system for politics. he contested the Anambra gubernatorial elections under the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and won, succeeding Peter Obi. He was re-elected to the seat on November 18, 2017.
