Kellen Beatrice Kanze Dena Biography and Educational Background

Kanze Dena was born on the 12th of April, 1980 Duruma parents, which is part of the Mijikenda community, and who initially resided in Mazeras in Kwale. She was raised by a single mother after her father left when she was four years old and grew up in various parts of Kenya including Kwale, and Nairobi.

She attended Kianjokoma Primary School (today = St. Matthews Mixed Boarding Primary School) for her primary education and Kieni Girls High School for secondary education (O-Levels), graduating in 1997.

After her O-level, she attempted to join the Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) but it wasn't successful. After trying for some time, she resorted to studying Journalism and Mass Communication at Foundation College of Professional Studies.

Career

Kanze Dena interned for Kenya Broadcasting Corporation(KBC) radio station as a Swahili newsreader. She was later employed at the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation(KBC) TV as a news anchor alongside her co-anchor Badi Muhsin. 

After working at KBC for over six years, she crossed over the Citizen TV where she rose to become a household name in the Kenyan media. At Citizen TV, she co-anchored with Lulu Hassan on the Citizen TV's 'Nipashe Wikendi'.

Dena served as a Deputy State House Spokesperson and Deputy Head, PSCU in charge of coordinating digital, messaging, research, branding and press at State House in an effort of the Uhuru Kenyatta pushing the Big Four agenda and legacy building. 

She currently serves as the Spokesperson in the Executive Office of the President and head of the President's Strategic Communication Unit (PSU).

Personal Life

In 2019, Kanze Dena got married to her boyfriend, Nick Mararo. The wedding, which was an invite-only ceremony was held at Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Laikipia County. Mr Mararo is the CEO of Mobilesure Kenya, a mobile medical insurance firm that offers medical insurance cover whereby customers buy daily cover through their mobile phones as airtime.
Dena is a devoted Christain.
