Austine Ikeru Biography and Early Life
Austine Ikeru was born on the 16th of January, 1991 in Obudu, Cross River State to Mr. Godwin Ikeru and Mrs. Agnes Ikeru. He is the second child in the family and has five siblings. He was born and raised in a Catholic Christian family. He is originally from Orsumoghu in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State in the southeastern part of Nigeria.In 2009, at the age of 18 years old, Austine Ikeru got admitted to Enugu State University of Science and Technology and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communication at the age of 21 years old in 2012. To assist his family and support himself through school, Austine Ikeru had part-time jobs as a Perfume Seller, Class Tutor, Handout Seller and Writer. After graduating from the university, Austine Ikeru completed his mandatory one year National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Edo State, where he taught Literature in English and English Language at Akoko Edo Grammar School.
Career
After completing his NYSC in 2014, Austine Ikeru relocated to Lagos to search for jobs. He got a jobs interview in Television, Radio and Newspaper Companies in Lagos but was rejected. He then went back to Enugu in January 2015 where he got a job as a hotel attendant. He worked for three months and quit the job because the pay was very poor. He then relocated back to Lagos where he got a job as a news reporter at Skyrocket News. He worked in the company for six months and quit after the company couldn’t pay him after owing him four months’ salary.
In August 2015, Austine Ikeru joined GNLD network marketing and worked with the company for five months. He later quit the network marketing business after he discovered that the business wasn’t lucrative. In January 2016, he got a job at Comprehensive Secondary School Lagos as a Literature in English teacher. While teaching in the school, he started reading Linda Ikeji Blog and got inspired. In April 2016, he decided to create his own blog and that was how Austine Media was founded.
He started blogging part-time, combining it with his job as a teacher because at that time the blog wasn’t paying him at all. He only survived with his ₦22,000 monthly salary he received from the school as a teacher. After working in the school for six months, in July 2016 he was sacked by the school management after they discovered that he was blogging. The school management sacked him and told him to go home and continue blogging.
In September 2016, Ikeru got another job as a Literature teacher at Mata Christi Girls High School in Igede Ekiti, Ekiti State in the south western part of Nigeria. He worked in the school for one year and later resigned to focus on his blogging career. In August 2017, he relocated back to Lagos and focused full time on his blog.
In September 2017, he created his YouTube Channel Clement Ikeru Inspiration. His channel has garnered over 260,000 subscribers with over 40 million views. In April 2019, he created his second YouTube channel Clement Ikeru Documentary. Austine Ikeru has been nominated for several awards. In 2020, he was nominated for best blogger of the year at Naija Traffic Awards. In 2018, his blog was nominated for Best Entertainment Blog at the Nigeria Blog Awards.
