What Are Castellated Holes (PCB)

The castellated hole on the lock is a slot in the form of a half socket. These silver holes are most commonly found on the edge of the circuit board. Depending on the application, these holes may look different. Unlike standard half holes, some of them look like large or small parts of the interrupted circle.

What Are Castellated Holes? 

A serrated hole is a half-galvanized hole-shaped slot along the edge of the circuit board. These boxes help you stack the circuit boards together during the assembly process. 9. How to arrange jagged holes

Designing jagged holes is not as complicated as you might think. However, if the operation is improper, it may affect the function of the circuit board. When designing crimp holes, keep the following points in mind.

10. Half Holes 

A half hole is a plated half hole with a half on the edge of the board. You need to perform a few steps to create them. Drilling the PTG is the first step, then the cover plate. Then transfer the image. Metallization is the fifth step, followed by scratching and engraving. After applying the solder mask, the surface is coated. The last step is to cover the half hole.

11. Smaller hole with the smallest

Semi-long holes require modern small drills. The castellated hole should be inappreciably smaller than the semicircular serrated hole. These holes are located on the periphery of the large serrated holes.  Holes with smaller inlet holes for post-processing a hole with a small rework inlet are used in the connection device. The design requires a post-processing cutting tool, and the tool produces smaller castellated holes needed here.

12. Always use the top and bottom edges as holes.

Always use the top and bottom edges as holes. Be careful not to use vertical edges. This is because they act as bridges, and these bridges are located between the circuit boards. Position the center of each serrated hole precisely on the edge/contour of the circuit board. For best results, these castellated holes should be located in the drilled layer.
