Oba Otudeko Biography and Educational Background

Oba Otudeko was born on the 18th of August, 1943 in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, Nigeria. His father was a king while his mother was a businessman. He had his elementary education at St. John's School, Oke Agbo, Ijebu-Igbo in Ogun State before proceeding to Olivet Baptist High School, Oyo.

Thereafter, he travelled to the United Kingdom where he studied Accountancy at the Leeds College of Commerce Leeds, Yorkshire (which is now part of the Leeds Beckett University).

Oba Otudeko has also attended executive management training programmes at the Harvard Business School, Hult International Business School and International Institute for Management Development (IMD).

Career

Oba Otudeko is a Chartered Banker, Chartered Accountant and a Chartered Corporate Secretary. He worked in the banking sector for 23 years, rising to become the General Manager and acting Chief Executive Officer of the Cooperative Bank, Ibadan.

In the 1970s, Oba Otudeko founded Honeywell Enterprises, a trading enterprise company that later grew into Honeywell Group. The group's operations stretch across oil and gas, flour milling, real estate and marine transportation.

Upon retiring from the bank in 1983, Otudeko got appointed as a Director to the Board of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

In addition to the Honeywell Group, Oba Otudeko was also Chairman of FBN Holdings Plc and has, at various points, been Chairman of Fan Milk of Nigeria Plc and Airtel Nigeria Limited.

He has also held directorship positions in private companies operating in real estate, international trade and finance, and brewing, including Ecobank Transnational Inc and Guinness Nigeria.

In September 2006, Otudeko was elected the 16th President of the Nigerian Stock Exchange.

Awards and Recognitions

Dr. Oba Otudeko was Chancellor of the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State from 2001 to 2010. 
He holds the Nigerian National Honour of Commander of the Order of the Federal Republic (CFR), awarded in 2011 and currently serves as a member of the Office of Distinguished Friends of the London Business School(UK).

His awards include; Honorary Doctor of Science in Banking and Finance from Crescent University, Abeokuta, Ogun State; Honorary Doctor of Science Degree (D.Sc.) from Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo Town, Oyo State; and Honorary Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) from Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye.

He holds the Entrepreneur of the Year Award at the ThisDay Awards (2009), Leadership Newspaper Business Person of the Year 2015; Silverbird Extraordinary Lifetime Achievement Award; Ernst & Young Lifetime Achievement Award amongst other prestigious awards.
