Mike Ozekhome Biography And Educational Background

Mike Agbedor Abu Ozekhome was born on the 15th of October, 1957 in Iviukwe, Agenebode in Edo State, Nigeria. He obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree (LL.B.) from the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife (at the time, known as the University of Ife), in 1980, after which he proceeded to the Nigerian Law School, Victoria Island Lagos.

In 1983, Ozekhome returned to Obafemi Awolowo University to earn his Master of Laws (LL.M.).

Career

Upon completing his LL.B., Chief Mike Ozekhome was posted to the Ministry of Justice, Yola for his compulsory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme and then to the Federal Ministry of Justice, Lagos State. From there, he served as state counsel for the National Provident Fund (now Nigerian Social Insurance and Trust Fund (NSITF).

He thereafter joined the chambers of the activist human rights lawyer and social crusader, the late Chief Gani Fawehinmi, where he gradually rose to become the Deputy Head of Chambers, a position he held till 1985. 

In 1986, Mike Ozekhome founded his own multi-office firm, Mike Ozekhome's Chambers. 

In 2010, the Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee (LPPC) headed by the Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Aloysius Katsina-Alu okayed 19 senior legal practitioners, including Mike Ozekhome, for admission into the prestigious rank of the Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).

Personal Life

Mike Ozekhome got traditionally wedded to his lovely wife, Josephine in September 1991 while she was 20 years old and a law student of the University of Jos. They had their church wedding on December 7, 1997, at the Catholic Church of Assumption in Falomo, Lagos.

The union is blessed with six children; Oshoze, Esizaze, Oshoma, Osilama, Iseoghana and their last baby. Chief Ozekhome also has a son named Ugbekhai before the marriage and he is also a lawyer.
