Top Online Casino Brands in South Africa

Top Online Casino Brands in South Africa

For a few years, iGaming analysts have named African countries “the industry’s next big growth market”. Indeed, online gambling is huge in Africa, with South Africa being the biggest market for this industry today. As you might expect, this huge growth potential has sparked the interest of both local investors and international groups. As a result, the country now has several major online casinos and betting brands competing in its market. Here are the biggest ones today.

Fafabet

A recent addition to the South African betting market but one that’s already making some serious waves, Fafabet is one of the up-and-coming betting brands in the market. It received its license to operate in South Africa in 2021 and has since become one of the top betting outlets in the country.

Fafabet also entered the UK betting market around the same time, obtaining the UKGC license in 2021. This is one of the toughest European regulators.

10Bet

10Bet is another international brand, a recent addition to the South African betting market. Its parent company has been around since 2003, operating in markets like the EU, the UK, Sweden, and Ireland. It only entered the South African market in 2022 - but it’s already making waves.

10Bet is also active in several other African markets, including Kenya, Tanzania, and Zambia.

Sportingbet

Sportingbet proudly presents itself as South Africa’s largest sports betting site. Indeed, its offer is impressive, covering more than 8000 betting markets. On top of that, it has an impressive welcome offer for its new punters - but no online games section, which turns away an entire category of players.

While its player base is indeed impressive, it still lags behind its biggest competitors online.

Betway

Betway is the top international betting site and online casino in South Africa. The brand was introduced in 2006 by a holding company based in Malta, aimed especially at the European market. It has since expanded to cover several African and American countries and opened several offices worldwide, including in South Africa. Betway is owned by The Super Group, a holding company based in Guernsey.

The brand has several high-profile sponsorship deals, including one with EPL club Arsenal and others with South Africa’s Springboks. It is also an official sponsor of the SA20, South Africa’s Twenty20 cricket tournament.

Hollywoodbets

From its humble beginnings (originally a small company publishing race cards), Hollywoodbets grew into perhaps the biggest South African sports betting brands, both online and in real life. The company has retail outlets in South Africa and Mozambique and serves players from SA, Kenya, Malawi, and Mozambique, but also from Ireland and the United Kingdom, online.

Over the years, Hollywoodbets has signed various major sports personalities as brand ambassadors, from Bafana Bafana player Jerry Sikhosana to “The General” Teko Modise, who joined the ranks of Hollywoodbets ambassadors last year.

The South African online gambling market is continuously expanding, with more international brands and major local operations sharing it. These are the biggest brands available today, with more expected to emerge in the coming years.
