Asiedu Nketia Biography and Educational Background

Asiedu Nketia was born on the 24th of December, 1956 in Seikwa B/A in the Wenchi Municipal District of the then Brong-Ahafo Region (now Bono Region) of Ghana. His parents are both from royal homes, while his father, late Nana Kwaku Asiedu is a farmer from the Oyoko Royal family, his mother, Madam Hagar Akosua Afrah was originally from the Akwamu Royal family. Nketia is the fifth child of his parents' nine children.

Asiedu Nketia had his primary education at Seikwa Presbyterian Primary School. In 1974, he enrolled at the St. Joseph’s College of Education, Bechem, where he graduated a trainee teacher in 1978.

He further gained admission to study at the prestigious University of Ghana Business School for a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration (Banking and Finance option). 

He also holds a Master of Science Degree in Defense and International Politics from the Ghana Armed Forces Command College.

Career and Politics

Asiedu Nketia began his professional career as a teacher at Seketia Presby Primary in the Jaman North District of the Bono region. He was a member of the pioneer batch for a Post Graduate Training Programme in Stock Brokerage and Investment Analysis when the Ghana Stock Exchange was introduced.

Nketia also worked at the GIHOC Distilleries Company Limited before proceeding to the Nkoraman Rural Bank where he was the manager. He also worked as a trainee manager at Sehwi Asawinso Rural Bank and stockbroker/investment banker at the National Trust Holding Company Limited (NTHC).

In politics, Aseidu Nketiah served as a member of Parliament for Wenchi West Constituency from 1993 to 2000. He has worked on the Appointments Committee, Finance Committee, and the Public Accounts Committee. 

He has also served as the Chairman – Mines and Energy Committee, ranking MEMBER for Food and Agriculture and Cocoa Affairs Committee and Deputy Majority Chief Whip. He was Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture in charge of crops under the Jerry John Rawlings administration.

In 2017, he was elected Vice President of Socialist International in absentia at Cartagena. He was elected to serve under the current President of the Organization, George Papandroeu, who doubles as the Prime Minister of Greece.

Personal Life

Asiedu Nketia is happily married to Mrs Vida Adomah Asiedu Nketiah and the union is blessed with five children, namely; Amma Addae Nketiah, Kwaku Asiedu Nketiah, Yaa Asantewaa Nketiah, Afia Afra Nketiah and Kwame Boateng Nketiah.
He is a devoted Christian and a member of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana.
