Jean Mensa Biography and Educational Background

After obtaining her First School Leaving Certificate, Jean Mensa enrolled at the St. Mary's Senior High School for her secondary education. She further secured an admission to the prestigious University of Ghana, graduating with a degree in Law in 1993. She was called to the Bar in 1996.

Mensa also received an executive education from the Harvard Business School in 2018.

Career

Between 1995 to 1997, Jean Mensa worked at Amarkai Amarteifio Chambers as a Junior Lawyer. She also worked at BJ Da Rocha Chambers. Mrs Mensa has, for over two decades been a leader in policy research and advocacy.

She has been involved in the development of policies such as the Presidential Transition Act of 2012, the Revised 1992 Constitution of Ghana (draft), the Political Parties Funding Bill, and the Revised Political Parties Bill. 

Jean Adukwei Mensa also worked at the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA), where she rose to the position of Executive Director.

On July 23, 2018, President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo appointed her as the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana, after her predecessor, Mrs Charlotte Osei was removed from office.

Personal Life

Mrs Jean Mensa is happily married to Dr Charles Mensa, the founder and Chairman of the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA). The union is blessed with three children.

Awards and Recognition

Mrs Mensa has won several awards including the Young Professional Role Model in Governance Award presented by the Young Professionals and Youth Coalition Initiative (2014) and the Excellent Leadership Award by the EXLA Group (2013).
In 2017, she was ranked as one of the Top 60 outstanding, inspiring and hardworking corporate women leaders in Ghana by the African Network of Entrepreneurs (TANOE).
