Peter Akah Biography and Educational Background
Peter Akah was born on the 3rd of November, 1957 in Okporo, Orlu Local Government Area of Imo State. He attended St. Joseph Catholic School, Okporo (1962-1967) and Bishop Shanahan College, Orlu, (1970-1974).He further enrolled at the Federal School of Science, Lagos before gaining admission at the prestigious University of Ibadan. He also obtained a Masters Degree and PhD from the institution.
Career
Prof. Peter Akah is the current Vice-Chancellor of the Imo State University (IMSU). He will be taking over from Professor Victoria Adaobi Obasi, the first female Vice-Chancellor of the institution, who was just sacked by Sen. Hope Uzodinma.
Prior to the appointment, he had served in many capacities. He was many times, the Head of Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology, and the former Associate Dean of the School of Postgraduate Studies and Dean Student Affairs UNN.
From 1994 to 2000, he was a Visiting Professor at the National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development (NIPRD.
He has as an adjunct professor of Pharmacology at the University of Uyo, Uyo and Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka, as well as a Consultant Pharmacologist to UNDP, NIPRD and NAFDAC.
He is also an adjunct professor and Head Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics, College of Medicine, Imo State University since 2006.
Prof. Peter Akah has published more than 200 papers and 5 books and 21 book chapters in his subject area and has presented more than 50 papers in many national and international conferences.
He is a member of many learned scientific and professional associations, including the Institute of Public Analysts of Nigeria (IPAN). He is a Fellow of the Academy of Science (FAS).
He is currently the Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Medicinal Plants Research (JMPR), African Journal of Pharmaceutical Research and Development (AJOPRED) and Continental Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences (CJPS).
