Ursula Owusu Biography and Educational Background

Ursula Owusu was born on the 20th of October, 1964 in Ghana. She hails from Akim Oda in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

She attended Labone Senior High School, before proceeding to Mfantisman Girls Secondary School for her sixth form education. She further gained admission to study Law at the University of Ghana.  She was called to the bar in 1990 after finishing from the Ghana School Of Law.

Owusu holds a Masters in Conflict, Peace and Security from the Kofi Annan International Peacekeeping Training Centre.

Career and Politics

Ursula Owusu practised Law for over ten years before moving into the telecommunication industry to lead a telecom, technology company.  Prior to her becoming the Minister of Communication, she served on different boards and in different capacities in her professional career.

She was the Managing Consultant, N. U. Consult Legal, Governance and Gender Consultants, the acting Managing Director of Western Telesystems (Westel),

From April 2008 to January 2009, she was the Corporate and External Affairs Director, ZAIN Ghana.

Ursula Owusu's first step into politics was in 2012 when she got elected to be a Member of Parliament for the new constituency Ablekuma West Constituency. 

In 2015, Owusu contested and won the NPP parliamentary primaries in the Ablekuma West Constituency. She retained her parliamentary seat during the 2016 Ghanaian general elections after polling 34,376 votes out of the 60,558 valid votes cast making 56.96%.

She became the Minister of Communications in 2017.

Personal Life

Ursula Owusu is happily married to Dr Sam Ekuful, a UK based Ghanaian optometrist. The union is blessed with a child.
She identifies as a Christain.
