President Muhammadu Buhari recently announced the appointment of Haliru Nababa as the new Controller General of the Nigeria Correctional Service (NCoS). The information was made known through Francis Enobore, the Service Public Relations Officer (SPRO) in a statement, on Thursday, in Abuja.

The Nigerian Correctional Service (formerly known as Nigerian Prison Service) is a government agency of Nigeria which operates prisons. The agency is headquartered in Abuja, and it is under the supervision of the Ministry of the Interior and the Civil Defence Immigration and Correctional Service.

Haliru Nababa Profile

Haliru Nababa obtained his First School Leaving Certificate from the Demonstration Primary School, Sokoto, in 1975. He had his secondary education at Government Secondary School, Tangaza, where he obtained his West African School Certificate in 1980.

He subsequently gained admission to study at the prestigious Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, graduating with a Bachelors degree in History in 1988. He also holds a diploma in Criminology from the same institution.

On 13th August 1990, Mr Nababa joined the Nigerian Prisons Service, (NPS) as an Assistant Superintendent of Prisons. He rose through the ranks and was promoted to the rank of Assistant Controller General of Corrections on Jan. 1, 2018.

He got appointed as the Deputy Controller General of Corrections on 26th August 2020. Until his recent appointment, he was the Head of the Directorate of Finance and Accounts.

Haliru Nababa hails from Sokoto State. He is happily married with children and is a devoted Muslim.
