Joe Igbokwe Biography and Educational Background

Joe Igbokwe was born on the 30th of April, 1956 Uruagu, Nnewi, Anambra State to the family of late Chief & Mrs Daniel and Dinah Igbokwe.

He had his primary education at Uruagu Central School Nnewi, obtaining his First School Leaving Certificate in 1971. In 1974, he enrolled at Okongwu Memorial Grammar School (OMGS ) in Nnewi for his secondary education. He passed out from OMGS in 1979, where he served as the Head Boy in the 1978/79 academic year.

In 1980, Igbokwe secured admission to study Mechanical Engineering at the prestigious University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN). He served as the Vice President of the Association of Mechanical Engineering Students (UNN) in the 1984/ 85 session. Upon graduating from UNN in 1985, he was posted to Ogun State for his compulsory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) program. 

Career

Engineer Joe Igbokwe founded Optimum Plaza and First Grade International Ltd with the help of National Directorate of Employment in 1988. He is also the founder of National Vision Newspapers Ltd.

In 2006, he joined the Lagos State Government as the pioneer General Manager of Lagos State Infrastructure Maintenance & Regulatory Agency (LASIMRA). In 2015, he got appointed as the pioneer Chairman of Wharf Landing Fees Collecting Authority, WLFCA in Apapa, a position he held till his appointment as a member of the cabinet of Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Engr. Joe Igbokwe was the State Chairman of the defunct Action Congress (AC). AC fused into Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), which merged with the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) and a faction of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to form the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

He is currently serving as the Special Adviser for Drainage & Water Resources to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Engr. Joe Igbokwe is a member of Nigerian Society of Engineers, (NSE) and Council for the Regulation Of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN).

He is happily married to Dr (Mrs) Grace Igbokwe and blessed with children.
