Babajide Sanwo-Olu was born on the 25th of June, 1965 in Lagos State, Nigeria. Being born into a Christian family, Sanwo-Olu started following God at an early age.Babajide Sanwo-Olu had his primary and secondary education in Lagos State. He gained admission to study at the prestigious University of Lagos, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu worked as treasurer with the former Lead Merchant Bank from 1994 to 1997 before moving to the United Bank for Africa where he served as the head of foreign money market.After working at UBA, he proceeded to the First City Monument Bank (then First Inland Bank, Plc) where he worked as a deputy general manager and divisional head. He also worked as the Baywatch Group Limited and First Class Group Limited.

His victory was due to the supports he got from major stakeholders in Lagos State politics; including members of the Lagos State House of Assembly (this led to withdrawal of Dr. Femi Hamzat from the gubernatorial race) and the Governor’s Advisory Council of the Lagos chapter of the All Progressives Congress.
Babajide Sanwo-Olu was declared winner of the 2019 gubernatorial elections which held 9th March, 2019. He defeated his opponent, Jimi Agbaje with a wide margin.
