Tsatsu Tsikata Biography and Educational Background

Tsatsu Tsikata was born on the 1st of October, 1950 in Keta, a town located in the Volta Region of Ghana, but he was raised up in Adabraka, a suburb of Accra, the capital of Ghana. His father, Godwin Kwaku-Sru Tsikata was a Textiles Sales Manager with the United Africa Corporation (UAC).

Tsikata started school at a very early age because he wanted to follow his older brother Fui to school. He first attended Additrom Preparatory School and then Mrs Sam’s Preparatory School. He further enrolled at Accra Newtown Experimental School, where he was jumped from Year 2 to Year 3, catching up with his older brother Fui.

In 1960, Tsatsu Tsikata won a United Africa Company (UAC) scholarship to start his secondary education at the age of nine at the Mfantsipim School. Upon completing his five-year course, he gained admission to study law at the prestigious University of Ghana, Legon, graduating with an LL.B First Class degree at the age of 18 years.

He also won another scholarship to study at the Oxford University where he again obtained first-class honours in Bachelor of Civil Law.

Career

Upon returning to Ghana in 1974, Tsatsu Tsikata was appointed a lecturer at the law faculty of the University of Ghana.

Tsikata is a notable affiliate and legal counsel to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and regarded as one of the leading members of the party. He has also served as a counsel to a number of notable personalities over the years. These include; President Jerry Rawlings, Kofi Awoonor and Kojo Tsikata.

In October 1988, he was appointed the Chief Executive of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC) by the then ruling NDC led by Jerry Rawlings. He served in the capacity until December 2000.

Personal Life

Tsatsu Tsikata is happily married to Esther Cobbah and the union is blessed with three children, including Ghanaian rapper, singer and songwriter, Kwame Ametepee Tsikata, professionally known as M.anifest.
Tsikata is Christian and an elder of the Asbury Dunwell Church in Accra.
