Emeka Akumefule (Blaqbonez) Biography and Entertainment Career

Emeka Akumefule was born on the 29th of January, 1996 to an Igbo family. Growing up, he got exposed to the Yoruba and Urhobo culture in Nigeria. He discovered that he could rap at the age of 13 in what can be described as happenstance.

According to the story, he was listening to the radio with his cousin, when the song of a 12-year-old rapper was played. His cousin liked the song and challenged Blaqbonez to come up with his own lyrics since he liked criticizing rappers. Within a few minutes, he had cooked up something and a new phase of his life began.

Blaqbonez' parents were never in support of his newfound hobby, but he secretly pursued it. While in school, the young talented rapper dropped his first project, Hip-Hop in Blaq, and participated in competitions.

Even though Blaqbonez has been in the Nigerian music industry since 2011, he started gaining media attention in 2012 after he emerged winner of the Terry tha Rapman‘s zombie competition. He later went on to release his first single 'Stronger' off his 'Hip hop in Blaq Mixtape'.

He came to the limelight after releasing the single, 'South Africa Must Go' alongside Ola Dips.

Blabonez has 8 EPs and several mixtapes to his credit. His album 'Bad Boy Blaq' was listed by SoundCityTv among the Album of the Year alongside M.I Abaga’s 'Rendevouz' and Burna Boy’s 'YE'.

He is currently signed to 100 Crowns, a hip hop label imprint of Warner Music Group African partner, Chocolate City (record label).
