Gabriel Suswam Biography and Educational Background

Gabriel Suswam was born on the 15th of November, 1964 to the family of Zaki Suswam Tingir and Chief Mrs. Ashiwua Suswam Tingir. He originally hails from Anyiin, Gaambe Tiev, Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.

After completing his primary and secondary education, he enrolled to study Law at the prestigious University of Lagos, graduating with an LL.B degree in 1989. In 1990, he obtained his and the BL Certificate from the Nigerian Law School and was called to the Bar.

Career and Politics

From 1990 to 1994, Gabriel Suswam worked for other law firms while continuing his studies. In 1994, he launched his own.

Suswam's first step to politics was in 1999 when he contested and won the seat for the House of Representatives for the Katsina-Ala/Ukum/Logo Federal Constituency under the People's Democratic Party (PDP) platform.

He ran again for the House of Reps. seat in 2003 and got re-elected.

In April 2007, Suswam was elected Governor of Benue State. He got re-elected for a second tenure in 2011.

In the 2015 general elections, he lost the senatorial seat election to Chief Barnabas Gemade of All Progressives Congress (APC).

In the 2019 general elections, Gabriel Suswam was elected as the Senator for the Benue North East constituency of Benue State, Nigeria

Sen. Gabriel Suswam is happily married to Dr. Dooshima Yemisi Suswam, an architect and the union is blessed with children.
He is a devoted Christian and a member of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).
