Goddy Jedy Agba Biography and Career

Goddy Jedy Agba was born on the 20th of August, 1958 to the family of HRH Uti J.D. Agba and Mrs Gertrude Amokeye Jedy-Agba. His father is the paramount ruler of Obudu Area Council reputed to be the longest-serving traditional ruler in Cross River State. He has been on the throne for over 50 years and he is a three-time chairman of the State traditional council.

Goddy holds a degree in International Studies from the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, (ABU) Zaria, Kaduna State and a master's degree in International Law and Diplomacy from the University of Lagos (UniLag).


In 1984, Goddy Jedy Agba joined the Federal civil service as an Assistant Secretary II. In October 1985, he was posted as a senior assistant secretary to the Federal Development Authority (FDA) in Lagos.

Goddy became the personal assistant (PA) to the minister of special duties under the presidency, state house-Lagos. 

In 1989, he was selected as a personal assistant to the minister of special duties under the presidency. In December 1990, he was moved to the ministry of foreign affairs as PA to the minister of state on foreign affairs. He was in this position till 1993 when he became the PA to the secretary of the state till 1995 when he joined the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). 

At NNPC, he rose to the position of head market research, crude oil marketing department and later became the head gas/gas liquids/condensate sales, GGLU Crude Oil Marketing Department.

In 2014, Goddy Jedy Agba left the nation's oil company to join politics in his state. After being nominated for the ministerial position by President Muhammadu Buhari in July, he was assigned the portfolio of Minister of State, Power on 21st August 2019.

Goddy Jedy Agba was honoured as an Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR) on September 2012.

Personal Life

Goddy Jedy Agba is happily married to Beatrice Jedy-Agba, a popular lawyer and anti-human trafficking advocate. She was Director-General of the National Agency for Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) between 2011 and 2016 and is currently serving as the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics at the Federal Ministry of Justice.
