Samuel Maduka Onyishi Biography and Educational Background
Samuel Maduka Onyishi was born on the 23rd of November, 1963 in Nsukka, Enugu State. Growing up for him wasn't fun as lost his Dad at a very early age. His father, who worked as a bricklayer slumped and died on the last day of February 1977, thereby exposing the young Samuel to different forms of hardships.
Samuel had his primary school education at the Enugu Road primary school, Nsukka from 1971-1976. He then was admitted into Bubendorf Grammar school, Adazi, in Awka, Anambra State. He switched to Community Secondary School, Mbu in Isi-Uzo LGA of Enugu State after withdrawing from his previous school due to financial reasons that followed his father's death.
He was challenged to pursue university education by one of his village men who ordered him to keep quiet because as an ordinary West African School Certificate (WASC) holder, he shouldn’t talk where graduates like him were talking.
He secured admission to do a Diploma Program at the prestigious University of Nigeria, Nsukka, between 1993 – 1996 and later, a degree program from 1996 – 1999. He graduated with a Second Class Upper in Social works and Community development. He later got a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) in Entrepreneurship from the Institute for Transformative Thought and Learning in the Doctoral Research Centre of the University of Arizona, Phoenix, in the United States.
Career
In 1994, Samuel Maduka started his transportation business with only two buses. The company has over the years, grown to about 4,000 fleets of vehicles and other subsidiaries with a presence in over 19 states and more than 2,000 staff.
In 2019 Dr. Samuel Maduka Onyishi was appointed by May & Baker Nigeria Plc as its new Non-Executive Director. He was appointed during the company’s 2019 Annual General Meeting (AGM). Sequel to the appointment, he has also been recommended by May & Baker’s board for election as a Director of the company.
On 4 January 2020, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi laid the foundation for entrepreneurial university, Samuel Maduka University, Agu-Ekwegbe in Igbo Etiti Local Government Area of Enugu State founded by the Chief executive officer of Peace Mass Transit (PMT) Company, Dr. Samuel Onyishi.
