Kemi Adetiba was born on the 8th of January, 1980 in Lagos State, Nigeria. Her father, Dele Adetiba is a veteran in the advertising and broadcast industries, who played a pivotal role in the development in Nigeria while her mother Mayen Adetiba is a civil engineer and actor. Mayen Adetiba is the first female civil engineer to be elected into the Executive Committee of the Nigerian Society of Engineers.After obtaining her First School Leaving Certificate, she enrolled at Atlantic Hall High School, Lagos for her secondary education. She holds a degree in Law from the prestigious University of Lagos (UniLag) and was called to bar after one year at Nigeria Law School. She also holds a certificate from the New York Film Academy.
Career
Kemi Adetiba's first step into the media was as a young child when she headlined two national television commercials for the iconic detergent brand OMO.
She started her professional career as a radio presenter with Rhythm 93.7 FM. She, however, came to spotlight after anchoring the 'Maltina Dance All' TV competition for three consecutive years, from 2009 to 2012. The exposure she got from the show helped make her name a household brand in the Nigerian entertainment industry.
She has over the years, grown to become one of the biggest Nigerian filmmakers. Her movie, 'King of Boys' grossed over ₦100 million in cinemas nationwide.
On September 8th 2016, her first feature film 'The Wedding Party' premiered opening night, at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), as the opening film of the City-to-City Spotlight. 'The Wedding Party' was a great achievement and broke box office records by raking in over ₦3.5 billion.
