Bisi Alimi is a Nigerian gay rights activist, HIV/LGBT advocate, blogger, public speaker and the first Nigerian man to organise an LGBT pride event in Nigeria.
He organised the Night of Diversity 2019 event in Lagos and in the event, 9 members of the LGBT community took the stage to show off their talents and capabilities.
The Bisi Alimi Foundation organised event was sponsored by different foundations like Martin Prendergast, Elton John AIDS Foundation, Stephen Fry and Paul Gambaccini. It was also stated in Nairaland.com that the British Deputy High Commission also provided the venue for the event.

Bisi Alimi was born on the 17th of January, 1975 into a family of 10 children; 5 from his mother and 5 from from another woman. His father, Raski Ipadeola Balogun Alimi was a police officer while his mother Idiatu Alake Alimi was a university clerk.
Alimi was born in the Mushin district of Lagos as Ademola Iyandade Ojo Kazeem Alimi but later changed his name as he grew older to Adebisi Alimi.

Bisi had his secondary school education at Eko Boys' High School in Lagos, and graduated in 1993. During his school days, he helped his school win many cultural dance awards.
He was a member of the school literary and debating society. He was also a Social Prefect (in charge of organizing social activities).
The same year after graduating from  Eko Boys' High School in Lagos, Bisi gained admission into Ogun State Polytechnic. He later proceeded to the University of Lagos where he studied Creative Arts.
It was during his days at UniLag that he sexuality attracted media attention after Campus Lifestyle. In fact, the university’s magazine outed him as a gay man. He received much discrimination within the campus that he was almost denied his certificate. [wikipedia]

In 2011, Bisi was admitted at Birkbeck College and he earned his master's degree in Global Governance and Public Policy.

Career

Bisi's sexuality first gained media attention while he was in UniLag. He was discriminated and even had to face a disciplinary committee on the accusation of his gay status.
Although he later graduated, he was almost denied his certificate as it was believed that his morals were unacceptable for an alumnus of the university.

Bisi Alimi began his advocacy career in the late 1990s when some of his friends died from HIV/AIDS. He was very functional in educating his community on safe-sex education and condom distribution for Men who have Sex with other Men (MSM) and Gay men and Men in Nigeria.
After two years of performing the community mobilization tasks above, he joined the Alliance Rights Nigeria (ARN) as a Programme Director, developing and providing HIV/AIDS and sexual health services and support.
As the ARN Programme Director, Bisi was at the heart of developing the Nigerian MSM HIV prevention framework in 2004. In 2005, he co-founded The Independent Project (later, The Initiative for Equal Rights) working as its executive director.

In 2007, Bisi was forced to flee Nigeria following threats to his life. Two years after that he was granted asylum in UK where he has been resident and was later conferred with British citizenship.
From 2007 to 2011, he worked as MSM Project Co-ordinator at Naz Project London. He is currently the Executive Director of Bisi Alimi Foundation and co-founder/director of Rainbow Intersection. He also co-founded The Kaleidoscope Trust and served as Director for Africa from 2012 to 2013.
He is currently working as a lecturer at Humboldt University of Berlin and a visiting lecturer at Freie Universitat Berlin.

Bisi Alimi got wedded to Anthony Davis on Saturday, 5th November 2016. The wedding was very colorful and took place in England.
Before the wedding, he made a post on Twitter expressing his joy saying, “In the presence of friends and family from around the world, Anthony and I will say ‘I Do’. But we remember places in the world where love is (a) crime.” 
There is a law in the Nigerian constitution against same-sex relationship or marriage. Defaulters of the law are served with a 14-year jail term. So definitely he was referring to his country, Nigeria.

• He has been included in the 'Independent on Sunday' Pink List of most influential LGBT people in Britain in 2011, 2012, 2013, peaking at number 90 in 2012.
• 3rd on the list of 100 most influential Non White Atheist and Free thinkers in Britain and Northern Ireland.
• In January, 2014, Bisi was added to The Gay UK LGBT 2014 Honour List. This was in recognition of his exemplary work for 'Education in the LGBT Community'
• He has been nominated for the “Out In The City” magazine’s Diversity Champion of the Year Award. The Out In The City award is known as "UK LGBT Oscar"
