What Are The Roles Of Women In Muslim Culture?
Every being in this universe is created in pairs. Adam had Eve, to procure and to be with a partner for the rest of his life.
So it's justifiable to say every person on this planet is son and daughter of Adam and Eve. But the question arises, is a son and daughter equal in every culture?
A woman has always been a source of discussion and had been a stimulus of the parade in many cultures. It's questionable how one perceives the role of woman in their culture.

Fear of Woman in Islam

Before the dawn of Islam, women were rather oppressed, inferior and looked down upon.
What Are The Roles Of Women In Muslim Culture?
Not only this but newborn girls were buried alive because it was believed they have brought shame to the family's pride. Such heinous acts have been committed by the Arabs at the time.

So what changed after Islam?

Many stereotypes still confuse cultural practices with religion. One should remember that culture doesn't define religion. Those who fail to recognize it live in oblivion and misguide others as well.
Hence, times have changed so far. The status of woman was elevated in Islam from the very beginning. Woman are honoured and respected in every aspect of life and their role has been reprieved since the past days.

Either she wants to go on Umrah journey or simply want to do a job or even go for a different profession, her family supports her and is understanding of her point of view.
Now the woman is publically expressing their political point of views, after all, they have the right to vote as well, they are also having freedom of expression.
In each society, the role of woman has been somewhat similar and yet it is distinct.

1. Role of a mother

The foremost and basic role of women in any culture is being a mother. When she is a mother, her priorities take primary focus while her desires are left behind. She has to look after her family 24/7 doesn’t matter even if kids grow up, the responsibility never dies.
A Muslim woman is not shy of fulfilling her responsibilities as a mother. She gets up early, prepares the breakfast for her kids and husband, takes care of parents-in-law, cleans the house, cooks for them, and make sure everything is presentable on the dinner table.
She has to keep an eye on her kid’s education as well, teach them moral values and different lessons at every phase of life. In short, she holds the household together.
When it comes to planning for special occasion, she diligently prepares for it, her opinion matters, she has a strong voice that is listened to and forth like if entire family is planning for Umrah than she is the one to take the lead on packing the luggage and so on while her husband, on the other hand, takes care of the financial assets.

2. Role of a wife

There are a lot of conjugations upon the role of woman as a wife. In Muslim culture, a wife is pictured in the image of being the most obedient and prioritizes her husband's wishes above everyone else's.
True to the Muslim society, it can be commonly observed in today's society as well, but concerning time, things have changed but the roots remain the same.
Islam establishes the role of husband and wife. They have to embrace not only each other but their spouse's family as well and vice versa. The common component of a Muslim family is based on traditions and moral values no matter wherever you travel, a Muslim family is well-differentiated than other families.

The main guidance Islam provided women was the right to marry. Her choice matters, either in rejecting or accepting a marriage proposal as well. She simply can’t be forced upon. Many believe such is the case but remember in some cultures, that are so conservative, in the name of Islam had spread the bigotry specifically when it comes to the house chores.
What Are The Roles Of Women In Muslim Culture?
Contrary to the popular (wrong) belief that a wife is supposed to do all the cooking and cleaning and serve her husband's parents, instead she is doesn't have any of these obligations, and hence the role of the husband comes forward. In either case, if she does do this thing then she's doing a favour to her husband.

3. Role of a daughter

Fathers dot their daughters, often spoil them with freedom and luxuries that he can provide. He doesn’t want his daughter to want for anything. As the role is reversed, being a daughter is of great joy for many. Almighty has said so in His words,
“Daughters are blessings bestowed on you!”
they teach their parents to be humble, polite, understanding and most importantly they teach patience. Islam heavily objectifies if daughters are mistreated. No person is to ill-treat his/her daughter. Gender biasness is simply not allowed but it's the culture that fathoms such misogynists' ideas, unfortunately.  And sadly woman is often objectified for bearing daughters, in some part of Asian countries, but such culture can't be related to Islam.  Sometimes they won't even be allowed to leave their houses, while Islam stateswoman can go out and if they want to go for hajj and Umrah and then they are to be accompanied by Mahram (father, husband or brother) for protection and comfortable travelling.
So you see now? It’s not the religion creating boundaries but mankind.

4. Role of a sister

Having a sister is the friendliest relation among siblings. To be a sister is like having authority to bargain with parents on behalf of our sibling if a sister is elder in a Muslim family, even she is listened upon, hence the perks of being the eldest, and her decision matters as well. It's a mutual walking like between parents and their children.
What Are The Roles Of Women In Muslim Culture?
Role of sister is Islam is that of the role of a mother. A sister play, with you, conspires with you and will fight with you as well but in the end, the blood relation wins and you do truce again no matter what hard time you get to experience with other siblings. It won’t be wrong to say that sisters are partners in doing mischiefs and in times of sorrows or happiness are your support as well.
The role of sister is the same regardless of the religions and culture; some roles are can't be labelled with a tag.

Point to ponder

A woman can play any role in society, and yet some might look down on her and some will appreciate her. There are times when each role needs certain support regardless of how strong she might appear, having someone besides her during these times is a grateful feeling.
Islam emphasizes on creating an environment that supports women in every step they take.
“Beauty begins the moment you decide to be yourself”
So whatever role a woman might be playing, she must believe in herself to be successful in life.
