Ufuoma McDermott was born on the 23rd of April, 1981 in Benin City, Edo State. Though her parents are from Delta State, she travelled a lot during her childhood days. First from Benin City to Jos, and later to Lagos.
She had her early primary education at Alama Private School Jos, Plateau state, Tunwase Nursery and primary school Ikeja, Lagos and finally Molly International Nursery and primary Ajao Estate. After obtaining her first school leaving certificate, Ufuoma proceeded to Federal Government College, Odogbolu, Ogun State for her secondary education.
Ufuoma McDermott has a bachelor's degree in French Language from the University of Lagos, and a master's degree in Public and International Affairs, also from the same institution.
She also has certificates and diplomas from Alliance Française and NIIT. In 2011, she attended New York Film Academy in Los Angeles for an acting course and later on a film making course from Dov Simen's Hollywood Film Institute.

Ufuoma McDermott started her entertainment career in 2000 as a photographic model and later moved on to the runway and beauty pageants. As a photographic model, she graced calendars, posters, covers and inner pages of magazines and billboards for different brands including Galaxy drycleaners, Genevieve Magazine, Zinox computers, WSMJ, Upherre Magazine, Ruby n pink, Finlays wine, Nikky Khiran, Legend Exra stout, Yamaha, Joy Magazine, Lux soap, PZ, Globacom, Fan milk among many others.
As a runway model, she has showcased outfits in catwalk for the likes of Davida shirt makers, Nobel Afrik, WSMJ, Nikky Khiran, Collectibles, Steve Ray, Frankellis, Schön Afrique, Michrans, Modella and many others.
In February 2004, she decided to venture into an acting career. Her debut movie was Zeb Ejiro's 'The President Must Not Die', where she played the role of a detective. Since then she has been featured in a good number of movies, including 'Okafor's Law', 'Wives of Strike', 'What Just Happened' and 'Merry Men II'.

Before entering the movies, Ufuoma McDermott already participated in two mini-pageants. She won the Miss Ebony beauty pageant and partook in her first national pageant: Miss Commonwealth(Vanessa Ekeke), where she won the Miss Congeniality prize. Later, she also emerged 1st runner up in the queen Afrik beauty pageant (Tamilore Kuboye).
In 2003, she contested in the Queen of all Nations beauty pageant (Dubra Fufeyin) where she again emerged 1st runner up.
In 2004, once again emerged 1st runner up in the Miss Nigeria beauty pageant. It wasn't long after that, she was crowned Miss Earth Nigeria and consequently went to represent the country at the Miss Earth 2004.

On the 23rd of April, 2010, Ufuoma got married to Steven McDermott. She officially changed her name to Ufuoma McDermott on 23 May 2014 at a Lagos high court.
The marriage is blessed with two children, Isio Jared (born 10 October 2012) and Kesiena Alize (born 8 August 2015).
