Yahaya Bello was born on the 18th of June, 1975 in Olamaboro, Kogi State, Nigeria. He was the youngest out of the six children of his parents, Late Alhaji Bello Ipemida Ochi and Hajiya Hawawu Oziohu.In 1984, Bello started his primary education at Local Government Education Authority (Nigeria) (LGEA) Primary School, Agassa in Okene LGA. In 1989, he proceeded to Agassa Community Secondary school, Anyava, Agassa-Okene for his secondary education, but completed it at Government Secondary School, Suleja-Niger State in 1994.
After obtaining his SSCE, Yahaya Bello first gained admission into Kaduna State Polytechnic Zaria, before proceeding to Ahmadu Bello University, Abu Zaria where he obtained a B.Sc in Accounting. He further enrolled for a Masters program in the same institution, from where he obtained a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) in 2002.
In 2004, he became a chartered fellow of the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN).
Early Career and Politics
Yahaya Bello ventured into a corporate career in 2001 when he got a job as a Revenue Officer II at the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC). He initially began working there as a Youth Corper, but got retained due to his diligence.In no distant time, he was promoted to the rank of a Senior Accountant and got transferred to the Makurdi Zonal Office where he headed the Account Department.
He, later on, rose to become the Assistant Chief Accountant, before resigning to venture into private business.
In January 2016, Yahaya Bello was sworn in as the Executive Governor of Kogi State, following the death of Prince Abubakar Audu, the first elected candidate.
On November 16th, 2019, he was re-elected as Governor under the All Progressive Congress (APC).
