He has over the years, grown from a student immigrant to one of the most influential blacks in the United States. He left Nigeria for America in 1985 to study real estate at Harvard University. On completing his studies, he joined Diversified Real Estate Service Co., where he worked on research reports and foreclosure postings. After working with Diversified Real Estate Service Co. for a while, he got a job at the Federal Savings and Loan Insurance Corp., where he worked as a regional manager for 12 years.

Ejike Okpa was born in the middle 1900s to Chief Edward Ejikemenwa Okpa, the Echelibe II of IHE. His father was a Chief of the Umuonwo Village in Ihe Agwu Local Government Area of Enugu State.
Chief Ejike Okpa's first license plate was EE 333 - Eastern Enugu - 1949, #333rd to licence a car in THAT part of Nigeria. He was aged 21. That number is now personalized in Texas 4ever in his memory and honour. EE OKPA
He left for the United States in 1985 to study real estate after completing his college education at Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Port Harcourt. Prior to his leaving the shores of the country, his father warned him to be prepared that the privileges he enjoyed at home because of his high status were about to disappear.
He graduated from the Dallas Police Citizen’s Academy in 1999. He is also an Alumni of Dallas FBI Citizens Academy 2003 and Director, World Affairs Council of Greater Dallas.
Mr Okpa participated in Dallas Business Journal Roundtable on ‘Branding the Metroplex’; June 2001 and was a candidate for City of Dallas Mayor in May 2003 General Election.

On completing his education, Okpa joined Diversified Real Estate Service Co., where he worked on research reports and foreclosure postings.
He further joined the Federal Savings and Loan Insurance Corp., where he worked as a regional manager for 12 years.

In 1985, something happened on his visit to Nigeria. His father told him, 'Anywhere in the world, a civil servant is still a civil servant. Own your own business.'

5 years later, he set up his own business, an independent real estate consultant. In 1992, formed Integrated Valuation Associates, a company that now does business as The Okpa Co.
The firm recorded massive growth, earning revenue of around $200,000 in 1992 and $500,000 in 2000 according to bizjournals.com.

Awards and Recognition

Ejike Okpa has earned a number of awards, both in the United States and beyond. Some of them include:
• In 1994, he received an award in recognition of his outstanding volunteer service to World Cup USA 1994
• In November 2004, he was appointed to serve on City of Dallas Comprehensive Planning Advisory Committee as a representative of the chamber of commerce
• In 2004, Dallas Mayor Hon. Laura Miller appointed Mr Okpa to Chair the Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center
• In 2012, he received an award from the Rivers State Branch of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers in appreciation of his brilliant paper presentation at the 2012 Port Harcourt MCPD in Rivers State
• He was appointed by Export-Import Bank of the United States as a member of the 2019 sub-Saharan Africa Advisory Committee.
