Buruji Kashamu was born on the 19th of May, 1958 in Ogun State, Nigeria. he started his early primary education at Ansarudeen Primary School, Ijebu Igbo but left in 1972 to complete it at St. John Modern School, Lagos.
After obtaining his first school leaving certificate, he enrolled at the Igbobi College, where he attended evening classes while working as a licensing agent. He later travelled to London, where he took courses in Business Management at Pitman College. 
Kashamu also holds an honorary PhD. in Humanities from the unaccredited, diploma-mill Cambridge Graduate University, located in Massachusetts. The degree was awarded to him at a privately organised ceremony in Lagos, Nigeria.

Political Career

Buruji Kashamu contested for the Ogun East senatorial seat and won, beating APC's Prince Dapo Abiodun who was his closest rival after polling 99,540 votes. Dapo Abiodun polled 84,001 in the election which was held in 2015.
In 2019, he contested for the Ogun State gubernatorial election and lost against Dapo Abiodun of the APC who polled 241,670 votes. Dapo's closest rival was Adekunle Akinlade of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), who scored 222,153 votes.

Controversies

Buruji Kashamu was arrested in 1998 over charges relating to drugs, after being caught while trying to enter the United Kingdom with $230,000 in cash. He was acquitted and released in 2003. 
He was also wanted in the United States for heroin trafficking but the British authorities refused a US extradition request, citing concerns about his identity.
According to SaharaReporters, he allegedly used forged educational qualifications to contest and win election to the Nigerian Senate in 2015.

Personal Life

Sen. Buruji Kashamu was married to Susan Buruji Kashamu and the marriage is blessed with children. His first daughter, Sherifat Kashamu got married to his husband, Abidemi in a classy wedding that took place on Wednesday 26th December 2018.
Sen. Kashamu was announced dead on the 8th of August, 2020. According to reports, he died as a result of complications caused by COVID-19.
