Joseph Ole Lenku Biography, Date Of Birth, Early Life, Family And Education

Joseph Ole Lenku was born on the 20th of October, 1970 in Lenkisim sub-location, Entonet location in the Loitokitok Division of Kajiado County. His father, Lenku Ole Mpaa Kapei was one of the wealthiest Maasai leaders with more than 2,000 heads of cattle and a large family. He was also a senior chief and respected leader of the Iterito age-group of the Maasai. His mother, Sentema Lenku on the other hand also hailed from the lineage of a powerful Maasai family.
His maternal grandpa, Keton ole Soipei was second in line in the leadership of Iterito age-group having lost the top position to Kapei.
Growing up for Lenku was like every other Maasai boy in rural areas. He spent his early days herding goats and sheep and also running errands while undergoing the necessary ceremonies like rituals and rites in line with the Maasai culture.

Ole Lenku started his had his primary education at Lenkisim Primary School. However, due to the ough and tumble of Kajiado, he had to be moved to three other elementary schools, including Ilbisel Primary School, Nkama Primary School and D.E.B. Loitokitok, where he excelled in his Certificate of Primary Education (CPE) exams.

He further proceeded to the Nakuru High School, from where he obtained his Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education in 1990. After high school, Lenku was admitted to study at the Kenyatta University. He, however, proceeded to the Kenya Utalii College where he attained a diploma in Hotel Management in 1995.

He further gained admission to study at the University of Nairobi, graduating in 2006 with a Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing and a Master of Business Administration in Business Administration. He also has numerous certificates from different institutions, including a certificate in Project Management from Greece Ote Academy and a certificate in Corporate Governance (Centre for Corporate Governance).

Career

Upon his graduation from Kenya Utalii College, Joseph Ole Lenku started his early career in corporate sector management. He first joined the prestigious Serena Hotels, where he served as an Assistant Lodge Manager for two years.

In 19998, Lekun moved to the Serengeti Serena. During the period he served there, he developed training standards for the food and beverage departments for which he got commendation from the top leadership of Serena Hotels.

In 1999, he returned to Kenya to join the Kilaguni Serena Lodge as a Lodge Manager and was subsequently promoted to General manager a year later. He served in this position until 2003 when he joined the elective politics of Kajiado South. Following the death of Mepukori Parpai, Ole Lenku vied for the seat on the National Rainbow Coalition (NARC) ticket but lost the nomination to Katoo Ole Metito. He returned to his career in the hospitality and tourism industry and was appointed General Manager of the David Livingstone Safari Resort.

In 2005, he left his job at David Livingstone Safari Resort to join government service where he began serving in the tourism and hospitality industry as the General Manager of Kenya Utali College. He served in the capacity until May 2013, when he was appointed by President Uhuru Kenyatta as the Cabinet Secretary for Interior and Coordination of National Government.

Joseph Ole Lenku emerged as governor after winning the Kenyan General Elections held on 8th of August 2017. He assumed office as the second Governor of Kajiado County on the 18th of August, 2017.

Personal Life

Edna Chelangat Lenku is happily married to Joseph Ole Lenku and the marriage is blessed with four children. According to xyz.ng, he ventured into business and farming after his unsuccessful debut in politics in 2003. He has relatively kept a large number of cattle, estimated at 600 animals.
