AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq was born on the 5th of February, 1960 to the family of Alh. A. G. F. AbdulRazaq SAN. Abdul Rahman’s father is a prominent statesman who fought for Nigeria’s Independence, he also served as a Federal Minister the First Republic in 1965.

AbdulRahman isn't the only successful politician in his family. Aside from his father, his siblings have also handled some strategic positions in Kwara State. His brother, Dr Alimi Abdul-Razaq was the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Kwara State Governorship candidate in 1999 while his sister Senator Khairat Razaq-Gwadabe, served as the Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory from 1999 to 2003.

AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq had his elementary education at  Capital School Kaduna between 1966 and 1968. In 1966, he proceeded to Bishop Smith Memorial School Ilorin, where he schooled until 1971 when he proceeded to the Government College Kaduna where he sat his West African School Certificate Examination (WASC).

Career and Politics

In 1991, AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq founded NOPA Oil Services and First Fuels, the first indigenous oil and gas trading company in Nigeria. According to his (AbdulRasaq) campaign website, NOPA Oil Services and First Fuels was the first indigenous company to lift crude oil and petroleum products to the United States, Europe and Asia.

The source also stated that he is a consultant to various multinational oil companies and governments including Ghana and Cote D’√ćvoire.

AbdulRazaq joined politics in 1999 and contested for the governorship election in Kwara State on the platform of Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) in 2011, but lost to PDP's Abdulfatah Ahmed. He again contested unsuccessfully for Kwara Central Senatorial District on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in both 2011 and 2015.

AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq was declared APC's governorship candidate after winning the primary elections that took place in October 2018. He also contested and won the general elections, thereby emerging as the Executive Governor of Kwara State. He was sworn in on May 29, 2019.

AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq is happily married to Mrs. Olufolake Davies Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq and the marriage is blessed with three children. Mrs. Olufolake Davies Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq is a top diplomat extraordinaire with over 25 years experience at the top echelon of Nigeria’s diplomatic circle. She was the Minister/Head of Consular, Education and Welfare, Nigeria High Commission in London. In 2015, she also served as the Minister/Deputy Head Industry, Trade and Investment, Nigeria High Commission, London.
