Alhaji Ahmed Idris is a Nigerian Financial accountant and current serving Accountant General of the Federation of Nigeria.
He got the appointment in 2015 after  Jonah Ogunniyi Otunla, who previously held the position was sacked by Muhammadu Buhari on allegedly misappropriating N2.5 billion of security agencies’ funds. Prior to his appointment, Idris served as a director in the Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel.

Ahmed Idris was born on the 25th of November, 1960 in Kano State, Nigeria. He had his primary education at Dandago Primary School, Kano. After obtaining his Primary School Leaving Certificate, he enrolled at the Kano Community Commercial College for his secondary education.

Idris further gained admission to study at the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He first did his IJMB (‘A’ Level equivalent) in the 1980/1981 academic session before going for his degree program in 1981, at the same institution. He graduated in 1984 with a B.Sc in Accountancy.

Ahmed Idris also obtained his Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from Bayero University Kano and Master of International Affairs and Diplomacy (MIAD) from ABU Zaria.

Alhaji Ahmed Idris is a member of different professional bodies, including the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, Certified Institute of Cost Management of Nigeria, Financial Analyst of Nigeria and Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.

Career

Mr. Ahmed Idris started his working experience as Audit Officer at Muhtari Dangana and Co, Chartered Accounts Firm, Kano in 1985. Between 1989 to 1994, he served as the Head, Loan Syndication Unit of Continental Merchants Bank.

On leaving the Continental Merchants Bank, Idris moved to TY Chemical Limited (White Oil Refinery) in Kaduna where he worked as a Senior Management Accountant.

Prior to his appointment as the Accountant-General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris also worked in several public offices, including; 
• The Petroleum (Special) Trust Fund (PTF) where he worked as Assistant Director (Finance and Accounts)
• National Poverty Eradication Programme (NAPEP) and Ministry of Police Affairs
• The Federal Ministry of Interior and Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation (OAGF) (he worked as Deputy Director, Finance and Accounts)
• The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) (he worked as Director, Finance and Accounts)
• Ministry of Mines and Steel Development

He was appointed as AGF on June 25, 2015, to succeed Jonah Ogunniyi Otunla who was reportedly sacked by Muhammadu Buhari on allegedly misappropriating ₦2.5 billion of security agencies’ funds. He was re-appointed in 2019, following Pres. Buhari's re-election as president.
