Lucy Essien was born in 1990 in Cross River State, Nigeria. After completing her primary education at Cross River State, she enrolled at the Federal Government Girls’ College, Calabar for her secondary education.In 2011, she gained admission to study at the prestigious Cross River University of Technology, Calabar (CRUTECH), graduating in 2016 with a Bachelor of Education degree (B.Ed.) in Elementary Education and Teaching.

Unlike some other housemates like Laycon and Erica, Lucy Essien is really a new face in the Nigerian entertainment industry. Lucy's first job was as a sales representative at Cocoa Products Store, she got the job with her SSCE certificate.After she gained admission into the higher institution, she interned for 6 months at Immaculate Conception Primary and Secondary School as an elementary school teacher. This was mandatory and was due to the nature of her course.
On leaving CRUTECH, she joined the Calabar Microfinance Bank as a loan officer. She worked there for four months before moving to Abuja for her compulsory one-year National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) service.
While in Abuja, Lucy got a job as the office manager of Dejavu Home Cinema and Interior Finishing, a company specialized in building and setting up private cinemas in residential homes. She left Abuja for Lagos after completing her NYSC.
While in Lagos, she got another job with Rubitec Nigeria Limited, a renewable energy company located in Ikeja, Lagos, as their project and social media manager. Her last job before joining the BB Naija show was as a medical secretary at Reddington Multi-Specialist Hospital, Ikeja GRA.
