Smart Adeyemi was born on the 18th of August, 1960. He holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Public Relations, Diploma in Law, Advanced Diploma in Mass Communication and a Masters In Public Administration from the Federal University of Technology, Owerri.Career and Politics
Upon graduating from FUTO, Smart Adeyemi started working as a journalist with the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA). He served as the National President of the Nigerian Union of Journalists from 1999 to 2006.
Smart Adeyemi was elected Senator for the Kogi West constituency of Kogi State, Nigeria in April 2007. He contested under the platform of the People's Democratic Party (PDP).
In 2011, he ran again for the same seat under PDP and won.
In 2019, Sen. Adeyemi won the seat for the third time but under the APC platform. He defeated PDP's Dino Melaye who was in the seat from 2015.

Smart Adeyemi is happily married to Mrs Yemisi Smart Adeyemi. The couple met while Yemisi was working as a newscaster with the Nigerian Television Authority, Ilorin. Sen. Smart was also working with the NTA then as a sports reporter.
In an interview with Vanguardngr, Mrs Adeyemi revealed that they went this far because of their belief in God. According to her, they were living based on the teaching of Jesus Christ.
The union is blessed with children, including Deola Smart, the founder of Tuvia Mobile and No1 Hotel. Deola got married to her heartthrob, Malivelihood in December 2020.
