Granit Xhaka (pronounced [ɡɾaˈnit ˈdʒaka]) is a Swiss born professional footballer who plays for both the Swiss national team and the Premier League club, Arsenal.He started his football career in his hometown club, Basel and they won the Swiss Super League twice. After that, in the year 2012, he moved over to Bundesliga team Borussia Mönchengladbach and developed a reputation as a gifted player and was made the captain in the year 2015, he was just 22 then.
He led the team to UEFA Champions' League qualification for a second successive season and then completed a high profile transfer to Arsenal, May 2016.
Xhaka was also a part of the Swiss team which won the 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup and made his senior debut in the year, 2011.
Talking about his family life, Xhaka was born on the 27th of September, 1992 to Albanian parents, Eli and Ragip Xhaka. His parents were originally from Kuršumlija, Serbia and his father was a political prisoner.
At the early age of 22, his father had participated in a student demonstration against the government in Yugoslavia, and was arrested and given a six-year sentence.
