Born on the 22nd of May, 1999, Samuel Chukwueze attended both the Government College and Evangel Secondary School, Umuahia.He was brought up in a Christian home and is of an Ibo descent. Chukwueze started playing football at an early age of 8, and has identified Jay-Jay Okocha to be his football idol.
Samuel joined the Villarreal CF's prolific youth setup in the year 2017, from the local side Diamond Football Academy. Prior to that, he had been assigned to the club's Juvenil A squad, and made his senior debut with the reserves on the 15th of April, 2018, coming on as a second-half substitute for Sergio Lozano in a 1–1 Segunda División B away draw against CE Sabadell FC.
He won the Nigeria Football Federation's 2018 Young Player of the Year award in April 2019 and has always been compared to football star Arjen Robben because of his skillset.
After playing for the Nigerian under-17, Chukwueze received his first call-up to the senior team in October 2018 and made his debut for the Nigerian senior team on the 20th November, 2018 as a starter in a 0–0 friendly draw against Uganda.
He was invited to represent the Nigeria's senior team at the Africa Cup of Nations and the Under-20 team at the Under-20 World Cup. He was a part of the Nigerian squad for the AFCON 2019 and scored his first senior goal in Nigeria's 2–1 win over South Africa in the quarter finals.
