Abba Kyari Biography, Date Of Birth, Early Life, Family And Education

Not much is known about Malla Abba Kyari's early life, but he is of the Kanuri descent. He had his early education in Nigeria, before moving to England where he gained admission to study sociology in the University of Warwick.
After graduating from University of Warwick, Khari also received a bachelor's degree in law from the University of Cambridge. He was called to the bar in 1983 after attending the Nigerian Law School.
In 1984, he obtained a Masters’ Degree in Law from his alma-mater, the University of Cambridge.

Career

Before becoming the Chief of Staff to the Nigerian president, Abba Khari had already worked in a number of reputable firms in Nigeria. He worked as an Editor with the New Africa Holdings Limited Kaduna between 1988 and 1990.
In 1990, he served with the Borno State Executive Council as Commissioner for Forestry and Animal Resources and was Secretary to the Board of African International Bank Limited, between 1990 and 1995.
Abba Kyari also worked as Executive Director, Management Services in the United Bank for Africa Plc. (UBA) and was later promoted to the Managing Director and Chief Executive of the Bank. 
In 2002, he was appointed a Director Unilever Nigeria Plc. Unilever is a British-Dutch transnational consumer goods company co-headquartered in London, England, and Rotterdam, Netherlands. Its products include energy drink, food, beverages and ice cream, beauty products, cleaning agents and personal care products.
He also served on the board of Exxon Mobil Nigeria.
Between 2000 and 2005, Khari served as an Honorary Member of the Presidential Advisory Council on Investment in Nigeria.
In August 2015, Abba Kyari was appointed Chief of Staff to President Muhammadu Buhari.

Personal Life And Death

Abba Kyari was married to the sister-in-law of former Nigerian sociologist, writer, and politician Ibrahim Tahir, and they had four children.
He tested positive to the ravaging COVID-19, and had been receiving treatments in a hospital in Lagos State, until his death on Friday, 18th April, 2020.
