Mike Adenuga Biography, Date Of Birth, Early Life, Family And Education

Mike Adenuga was born on the 9th of April, 1953 in Ibadan, Oyo State, Nigeria. His father, Oloye Michael Agbolade Adenuga Sr, was a school teacher while his mother, Omoba Juliana Oyindamola Adenuga, a businesswoman of royal Ijebu descent.

Mike Adenuga had his secondary education at the Ibadan Grammar School, Ibadan, and Comprehensive High School, Aiyetoro, for his Higher School Certificate (HSC). While in higher institution, he worked as a taxi driver to help fund his university education at Northwestern Oklahoma State University. He eventually moved on to the Pace university in New York where he obtained a degree in Business Administration.

Career

Mike Adenuga's first big step as an entrepreneur was in 1979 when he took control of his mother’s sawmill business and started distributing Coco Cola and lace. This was shortly after his return to Nigeria on completion of his university education.

He received a drilling license in 1990 and in a year later, his Consolidated Oil became the first indigenous oil company to strike oil in commercial quantity after striking oil in the shallow waters of Southwestern Ondo State.

Adenuga was issued a conditional GSM licence in 1999; after it was revoked he received a second one when the government held another auction in 2003. His company, Globacom became a houshold name and started challenging the South African multinational mobile telecommunications company, MTN.

In 2008, Globacom launched services in Benin Republic and further expanded to Ghana and Côte d'Ivoire, with more licences currently being prospected in other West African countries.

Mike Adenuga is married to Titi Joyce Adenuga and they have 7 children including; Eniola Adenuga, Paddy Adenuga, Adetutu Oyindamola Emilia, Abimbola Adenugaa, Michael Babajide Adenuga and Bella Disu.
