Alhaji Aliko Dangote Biography, Early Life, Family And Education

Aliko Dangote was born on the 10th of April, 1957 in Kano State, Nigeria into a wealthy Muslim family. His grandfather, Alhaji Alhassan Dantata, who died in 1955 was the richest man in West African as at the time of his death.
His parents, Mohammed Dangote and Mariya Sanusi Dantata where also successful in their different businesses. 

Dangote had his early education at Ali Kumasi Madrasa, followed by Capital High School, Kano. In 1978, he graduated from the Government College, Birnin Kudu.
After completing his secondary education, Aliko Dangote proceeded to the prestigious Al-Azhar University, Cairo where he obtained a bachelor's degree in business studies and administration.

Businesses

Aliko Dangote established the Dangote Group in 1977 as a small trading firm, and located the business the same year to Lagos. Today, the Dangote Group has grown from a trading form to  multi-trillion-naira conglomerate with many of its operations in Nigeria, Zambia, Ghana, Togo and Benin. The group has also expanded to cover cement manufacturing, freight and food processing.

Apart from dominating the Nigerian sugar market, the Dangote Group is also a major supplier of sugar to most Nigeria breweries, confectioners and soft drink companies.

Dangote Group is also building the largest refinery in Africa and the third largest in the world, producing 800,000 tonnes of sugar annually. 

It owns flour mills and salt factories, and is also a major importer of rice, pasta, fish, fertiliser and cement. The company also exports cashew nuts, cotton, sesame seeds, ginger and cocoa to several countries.

Dangote Group has major investments in banking, real estate, textiles, oil, and gas. It employs over 11,000 people and is currently the largest industrial conglomerate in West Africa.

Personal Life

Aliko Dangote has been married up to two times but for one or two reasons, the marriages didn't work out. His first wife, Zainab was selected for him in 1977, when he was only 20 years old.
His second marriage was with Mariya A D Muhammad Rufai, the daughter of Commissioner for Women Affairs and Human Services in Bauchi State. The marriage also crashed like the first, so for now, no one know the current wife of the Africa's richest man.

Aliko Dangote has three daughters; Mariya Dangote, Halima Dangote, Fatima Dangote and an adopted son, Abdulrahman Fasasi.
