Anne Mumbi Waiguru was born on the 16th of April, 1972 in Nairobi, Kenya. Her father was a cop while the mother was a businesswoman. She began her early primary education at Nairobi River Primary School, before enrolling into Precious Blood Girls' Secondary School, Riruta where she sat for her O-Level exams in 1987.
She further joined Moi Forces Academy, Nairobi where she studied Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, taking her A-Level exams in 1989.
She gained admission into the prestigious Egerton University to pursue a Bachelor's Degree in Agriculture and Home Economics. Upon graduation, she started working with Transparency International as an intern and research assistant, and then joined the Kenya Leadership Institute.
Anne Waiguru also holds a Master's Degree in Economics from the University of Nairobi.

Career and Politics

Anne Waiguru began her corporate career by providing technical assistance to the Public Service Reform Secretariat in what was then the Cabinet Office. She then proceeded to the National Treasury, where she served as the Head of Governance and the Economic Stimulus Programme.

Waiguru also served as the director of Integrated Financial Management and Information System (IFMIS), and Head of Governance at the National Treasury before serving briefly as a senior public sector manager/assistant vice president, at Citi-group.

Before declaring her interested in politics in August 2016, Waiguru also served briefly Previously, she served as a technical advisor in the Cabinet Office, Office of the President on secondment from the World Bank.

In 2017, Anne Waiguru was elected Governor of Kirinyaga county. She was the first of only three women Governors in Kenya, followed by Joyce Laboso and Charity Ngilu.

In June 2020, a motion to impeach Anne Waiguru as the elected governor of Kirinyaga County was passed by the Kirinyaga MCAs and forwarded to the Kenya Senate house for verdict and overruling.

This was followed by her impeachment on June 9th, 2020. She was accused of receiving irregular travel allowances for trips she did not make among other things.

Personal Life

Anne Waiguru is married to city lawyer Kamotho Waiganjo. She is a proud mother of three children, Ian Waiguru, Don Waiguru, and Wabu Waiguru.
Her eldest son, Ian who is currently schooling at the University of Salford in England, is the founder/CEO of an IT company, Something Inc. The company mainly focuses on software development and creative solutions and further houses two more of his projects.
