Ibrahim Magu Biography, Date Of Birth, Early Life, Family, Education And Career

Ibrahim Magu was born on the 5th of May, 1962 at Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State, Nigeria to the family of Mallam Mustafa Magu and Hajiya Bintu Magu. He had his early primary education at Yarwa Practicing Primary School, Maiduguri between 1969 and 1975.
After obtaining his First School Leaving Certificate, he enrolled in at the Government Secondary School Waka Biu where he studied for his West African School Certificate from 1975 to 1980.
He further obtained an ‘A’ level Certificate from the School of Basic Studies, Ahmadu Bello University Zaria in 1982, before gaining admission into the Institute of Administration, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria where he graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science Honors in Accounting.
For his compulsory National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Ibrahim Magu served as the NYSC Accountant at the Benue State Health Services Management Board, Makurdi.

Career

Ibrahim Magu was in 1987, appointed full-time Accountant II by the Borno State Government. He served in various Ministries and Departments in the Borno State Government as an Accountant and rose to become a Zonal Accountant.
In 1990, he voluntary resigned to join the Nigeria Police Force as an Assistant Superintendent of Police. He also coordinated the Nigeria Police Building Society before moving on to the Special Fraud Unit (SFU) of the Nigeria Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID). While at the SFU, he served as a team leader in charge of Financial Crimes, Money Laundering and Advance Fee Fraud investigation.
In 2002, Magu was posted to  Ekiti Police Command after being promoted Superintendent of Police (SP). He also served briefly as the officer in charge of the General Investigation and Monitoring Unit until May 2003 when he was seconded to the newly established Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). He was appointed as the pioneer Head of Administration and Finance of the commission.
On November 2015, he was appointed Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) following the sack of Ibrahim Lamorde who has earlier served twice.

Controversies

Ibrahim Magu was arrested in 2008 following allegations that police discovered EFCC files and a computer containing classified documents at his Abuja residence.
On October 2017, the House of Representatives Committee on Public Petitions on Tuesday issued an arrest warrant against Magu, for refusing to appear before it.

Personal Life

Ibrahim Magu is married to Fatima Yakaka Magu, a civil servant and the marriage is blessed with three children.  His hobbies include travelling, playing football, reading and writing.

For the past two decades, Ibrahim Magu has handled a number of positions in Nigeria. SOmetime in 2018, he revealed that he has only one house in Karu, Abuja. This was coming after the Department of State Services (DSS) claimed his wife had two houses in the Maitama area of Abuja.
