Osagie Ize-Iyamu was born on the 21st of June, 1962 in Benin City, Edo State, Nigeria. His father, Chief Robert Osayande Ize-Iyamu was revered high chief of the Oba of Benin, ranking second in command until his demise as the Esogban of Benin. His mother, on the other hand, was a teacher and trader.Osagie Ize-Iyamu started his early primary education at St. Joseph Primary School, but later changed to Ebenezer Nursery and Primary School in Benin City. After obtaining his first school leaving certificate, he enrolled into Edo College for his secondary education, graduating with a grade I in his West African Examination Council (WAEC) examinations.
Pastor Osagie further gained admission into the University of Benin where he graduated with an LLB (Hons). He got admission to study Political Science but changed to the department of Law after his first session. He was among the pioneer students of Law in the institution.
He also attended the Nigerian Law School, Lagos, from where he bagged the Bachelor of Law (BL).
Career
Osagie Ize-Iyamu was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1987. A year later, he proceeded to participate in the mandatory National Youth Service in Akure, Ondo State where he worked in Jide Aladejana's law firm for his primary assignment.While serving as a Corper, he made his strategic contribution to the emergence of Lucky Nosakhare Igbinedion as the Chairman of Oredo Local Government Council. The local government chairman in recognition of his resourcefulness, appointed him (Osagie Ize-Iyamu) as his Special Assistant. He served as SA to the Oredo Local Government Chairman between 1988 and 1989.
In 1990, Osagie Ize-Iyamu established a law firm named Idahosa, Ahonaruogho & Ize-Iyamu (Solicitor & Advocates) with other associates as a principal partner. The firm had offices in Lagos and Benin City.
In 1996, he established I.O Ventures Limited, a company he still serves as the Chairman/CEO till date. He further set up I.O Farms Training Institute- a model farm settlement at Ugbor-Amagba communities in Benin City, Edo State.
Pastoral Career
Osagie Ize-Iyamu gave his life to Christ in 1995, after escaping from a life-threatening experience. He was involved in a ghastly motor accident and was reportedly unconscious for nine hours. He suffered several fractures in his toes, and his hips were also dislocated. He was perfectly healed at the National Orthopedic Hospital, Igbobi, Lagos.He joined the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) after the incidence and with time, got qualified to become a minister in the church.
In 1998, Osagie Ize-Iyamu was made a Pastor of the Upper Room Parish of the Church, located at Adesuwa Road, G.R.A., Benin City.
Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu is presently the Assistant Pastor in Charge of Province (APICP), and Christian Social Responsibility (CSR) of The Redeemed Christian Church of God Edo Province 2 in Benin City.
Political Appointments and Involvement in Politics
Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu's first appointment in Edo State was in 1999, when he was appointed as the Chief of Staff to the Governor of Edo State, Dr. Lucky Nosakhare Igbinedion. He served as the Chief of Staff from 1999-2003. He also served as the Secretary to the State Government (SSG).
Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu has also handled several positions in party politics. He has served as the Director-General of Adams Oshiomhole's 2nd term Campaign Organisation.
Osagie was also the Coordinator of Goodluck/Sambo Campaign Organisation. Other positions that he has served in include; Vice-Chairman, South-South, ACN and Member, APC Constitution Drafting Committee.
Personal life
Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu is married to Pastor (Dr) Idia Ize-Iyamu, a Professor at the University of Benin and a Consultant Orthodontist with the University of Benin Teaching Hospital. The marriage is blessed with four children.
Awards and Recognitions
Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu was recently honoured by the Benson Idahosa University with an honorary doctorate degree in Public Administration. This was in recognition of his contribution to the development of our democratic process and rule of law when he received the Life Time Achievers Award by the Nigerian Bar Association, Benin (Lion) Branch.
